Reminders for Humans
Safety is a key factor when dealing with a group of dogs. When entering Camelot please try to remain calm, as this will assist us introducing or releasing your dog from the playgroup at the end of the day or settling dogs for naps.
At Camelot we work toward teaching the dogs proper etiquette in a social environment and we would like to ensure your safety by keeping you from leaning over the gates or reaching in to pat the dogs.
If your dog is a "player" we ask that they come to Camelot wearing ONLY a flat collar with a quick release snap (and without dog tags).
The doors at Camelot might be locked between 11:30 am and 1:00 pm, as the dogs are settled for a nap. For half day drop offs, please ensure we know to expect you.
Interview/Temperament Test
At Camelot we are firm believers in the benefits of dog daycare, but we also realize that dog daycare may not be the best option for your furry pal. Every dog at Camelot must be qualified to attend. If your dog does not pass the interview, it doesn't mean they are a bad dog, it just means this particular environment may not be the best for them.
We only introduce one new dog a day, after meeting with them. Typically we ask that you come by Camelot, introduce yourself and then we will come outside and meet your dog. In many cases, we will recommend that your dog attends for a half day session first.
Dog Health Issues while in Doggy Daycare
Precautions are required for the safety and well being of all dogs at Camelot. Please bring certificates and receipts including expiry information as proof of vaccinations (Rabies, Bordatella, Parvovirus, Distemper) and flea control program. We will accept positive titre panels signed by a veterinarian.
Just like kids, dogs are susceptible to whatever bug is going around. The standard yearly vaccines are excellent in protecting dogs against the more serious diseases; however, there are many things they can still pick up from other dogs anywhere. These are common bugs that pooches transfer from time to time. If you think your dog has any of the following, PLEASE KEEP THEM HOME! It's not fair to expose the other dogs to this.
Canine/Kennel cough or bordatella:
- Most frequent visitor to doggy daycare
- Pooch version of the flu that usually manifests as a deep froggy cough...usually when they first wake up or directly after exercising
- Often cough up white foamy mucous and be listless
- Your dog can catch Bordatella at the dog park, daycare, walking around the neighborhood or even at the vet
- Highly contagious, airborne virus and healthy dogs that show no symptoms can sometimes spread it
- Recommended: bordatella vaccine on a twice a year basis to keep kennel cough to a minimum
Fleas:
- All Camelot dogs are required to be on flea preventatives
- No flea collars, however, as they can be toxic if bitten or chewed
Worms:
- Can be contracted while dogs inspect each others body parts or from direct contact (OK, eating!) other dogs' poops
- Our crew is diligent about quickly cleaning dog waste, and if we see that a dog has worms, we will isolate him and contact the owner immediately to let them know
- Once wormed, a dog should stay home for at least a week to give the dead parasites time to get out of their system
Giardia:
- More prevalent after it has rained, and living in North Vancouver we are destined to have our pets exposed to it at some point
- It's a protozoan parasite that may give your dog bloody diarrhea and/or bloody vomit
Smelly, Stinky, Dirty Dogs
No worries, all pooches are brushed and spritzed when they go home in an effort to keep newly acquired "smells" as remote as possible! We also offer baths and massage if you would like...please see our rates menu for price information.
Doggie Spats, Brawls
Dog are dogs and just like people, don't always get along. Dogs use their teeth like we use our hands; they grab each other by the neck and nibble, steal toys and play with one another. Nicks, scrapes and the occasional puncture are going to happen. There are occasional disagreements between dogs. Camelot staff is trained to break up serious fights with any of our in-house tools/distractions. Camelot has never had a serious bite injury--a result of our playground diligence and our strict temperament screening. If your pooch is a Rocky-type, please ensure they come wearing a flat collar with a quick release buckle and no dog tags attached.
We think the benefits of dog daycare far exceed the downfalls, and that's why we love what we do. We implore all new clients to "know thy dog" and help us anticipate and avoid problem dogs and problem behaviors.
Thanks and we hope your dog is ready for doggie daycare at CAMELOT!
